Westlink has recently delivered sixteen (16) locomotives from Muncie, USA to a mining operation in Tavan Tolgoi, Mongolia.Â
Â
The locomotives were delivered in four (4) successive shipments with each operation starting with rail haulage from the manufacturer’s facility in Muncie, USA to the port at Moorehead City, USA. From there, the locomotives were loaded on a heavy lift ship which sailed to Tianjin, China for discharge. Upon arrival in Tianjin, China, the locomotives were unloaded to special trailers for the 800 kilometre journey to a rail yard on the Mongolian-Chinese border passing under a number of obstacles and bridges with only 50 millimetres in clearance in some instances!Â
Upon each trailer’s arrival in Mongolia, each locomotive was unloaded to track and rail hauled to the Tavan Tolgoi rail workshop to be commissioned for service.
